Next year...

I believe it's pretty safe to say that I will be at Columbia/TC next year. I had my meeting with the Big Man today and it went well. I have to say he is good with people for sure. It was just a conversation, but it was thoughtful, comfortable and helpful. I have a good relationship with him and his family as I taught both of his kids and watch his dog when they go on vacation. I found out in this meeting that, in fact, his kids were lobbying to change the associate program to allow associate to stay for more than 3 years. Apparently they were like
"Dad, you know Akemi is in her 3rd year, right?"
"Yes."
"Well you should change the associate program to 4 or 5 years. Actually, why do they even need to leave or have a specific time?"
Perhaps he was blowing smoke or exaggerating it, but maybe not. Regardless, thank you S and O for lobbying haha. I had no idea they thought this...I do believe it's not because of the teaching, but watching their dog. I'll take it.

As much as I will miss coaching with C and P and chatting daily with D and of course as I refer to my girls (aka the girls on my team) I think this was what I needed to continue on. If something opens up I can apply of course, but I don't think there will be much. I'll truly miss the coaching aspect and the goofy girls, but I am ready to move on. Clearly, I will be staying in touch and coming back to visit when I can. I have made some life long friends and care a lot about the girls, so I'm not going too far in spirit or realistically location as well.
