I would personally like to know who wrote this "inspirational," go get 'em quote. We will return to this in a bit.
As many of you, I am organized and a "planner." I would say a select few (but it's really all) of you often poked fun of me for this and I'm ok with that. Over the course of a year, I will have an internal conflict, thinking why can't I be more "free." I should just go and do x and do it now. Forget what really needs to get done or responsibilities, just go and do it. Now, I'd like to think I'm moderate between the poles of completely planned and everything on a whim. You may agree to disagree if you like.
But now going back to this quote, please tell me who can actually live like that? Props to you if you are one of these people and please enlighten me on your ways...
I'm not pleased with my job situation, but really quit? I do need my pathetic, barely above poverty line salary. I have bills and loans. Travel more...again, girl needs money for that, even if it's just to visit friends in nyc, dc, philly, etc. Life is simple. That is a bold statement...
I mean, I get the overarching message and it is good, but it's naive in my opinion. Maybe I am wrong or being a Nancy. I don't know. I think I just get frustrated because we live with the ideals that "life is short" and "seize the day." Yet I can't and I watch many others who can. I feel like it's a catch 22, do x and you'll be happy, but realistically there are consequences (bad credit, unemployment, etc) or don't do x and do the daily grind, but give up freedoms, happiness, etc. This is growing up and I get paying your dues, but sometimes it is just too much.
What do you think about this quote?
I fear this post is making me sound completely cynical and way old.
I have long been of the belief that the only people able to go "find themselves" and tell the rest of the world to fuck off are very, very rich people who can afford to take a break from reality. I feel like it's all about balance--for all the shit that you have to deal with, give yourself an occasional break and enjoy life for a day without thinking about tomorrow. (PS that's totally my way of saying that you should take a weekend off from your responsibilities and hang out with me!)
